HARVEY -- Now that students at North Star Academy are finished with their academic year, they can focus on learning in a more relaxed environment, called Project Term.
For the last two weeks of school, students at the academy focused on math and science in an out-of-the-classroom setting. These students have been learning about the physics of both disc golf and regular golf, and on Monday they got to try it out.
"For me it gets young people involved and interested in the sport, and it's something I can give back to my community and help out and it's fun," said Nathan Simpson, President of NMU Disc Golf Club. "It's fun to get other people out there enjoying the sport."
Along with learning about the physics of the sport, volunteers were also hopeful that the students would become interested in it as well.
Right now there are two free nine-hole disc golf courses in Marquette County: one in Harvey behind the Silver Creek church and one in Ishpeming at Al Quaal recreation area.
