IRON RIVER -- Memorial Day means many things to many people, and for a small group in Iron River Monday, it was a day for remembrance and peaceful protest.

A handful of concerned citizens braved the morning's bad weather to share their opinions of the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

With signs saying "bring the troops home now" and "killing creates enemies," they received a mixed reaction from the people and cars passing by.

"The military adventures in the Middle East have nothing to do with our freedom, our democracy or our security," said organizer Bruce Nelson.  "It does nothing to pay back for 9-11."

Group members also said it was necessary for them to make their statement Monday whether or not anyone was listening.
