MARQUETTE -- Marquette City residents may notice that a taxi ride is costing them a little more these days.
The Marquette City Commission recently passed an amendment to the city taxi ordinance so that taxi companies can raise their rates up to eight dollars.
The price of a cab ride in Marquette has been capped at $6.50 since 2006, and Taxi Tycoon owner Patti Bell asked the city to raise the rate after the price of gas went over $4 a gallon.
Bell says the rate increase is not for profit.
"I want you to know that it is not personally going to me to make more money," said Bell. "It's just to balance off my costs of running my cabs around town."
The rate increase is currently in effect.
Bell says Taxi Tycoon prices will be based on the price of gas that day.
