MARQUETTE -- Even though we haven't seen much evidence of it Thursday, we saw some proof earlier this week that spring weather is on the way, and one of the best ways to enjoy the nice weather in the Upper Peninsula is by using some of the hiking and biking trails.
That brings us to our Facebook story of the day, as voted on by you.
If you're looking for the best biking in the U.P., there are four places you'll want to check out: Marquette, Munising, Copper Harbor and the Houghton-Hancock area.
More specifically, Munising features a 10-mile loop called Bruno's Run, as well as the Valley Spur Ski Trail, that functions as a mountain bike trail during the summer.
In Houghton, you'll find the trails adjacent to Michigan Tech to be of a moderate ability level. Across the canal in Hancock, churning rapids and McLain State Park offer great biking conditions.
If you're looking for a great place to hike, the McCormick Trail near Michigamme comes highly recommended. So does the North Country Trail that runs along the shore of Lake Superior.
On Facebook, many of you asked us about wheelchair accessible sites to hike. We found that Presque Isle, Pictured Rocks and the Heritage Trail are all accessible.
If you're looking to camp along any of these trails, you can visit your local Department of Natural Resources office for information on regulations relating to any trails that run through state land.
"Hiking and biking, I mean, it's non-motorized so you're not using any gas, and it's a great way you can get out and recreate with very little investment and have fun with the whole family because you can get out and explore the beautiful nature around the U.P.," said Jeff Stasser of Down Wind Sports.
For a map of trail locations in the U.P., Down Wind Sports has some free ones at both of their locations. Those maps cover all of the trails in the U.P., including something I didn't know about, which is a kayak trail from Grand Marais to Big Bay.
