WAKEFIELD -- US-2 in Gogebic County is open Wednesday morning after being shut down for about an hour Tuesday night because of a head-on crash.
The collision happened around 10:25 p.m., just east of Wakefield.
The Gogebic County Sheriff's Department reports that an eastbound vehicle crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming vehicle. The eastbound driver became entrapped and had to be extricated by emergency personnel.
Both drivers were taken to Grand View Hospital for treatment. Their names and conditions are not being released, while the investigation into the accident continues.
The sheriff's department notes that roads were slushy at the time, and speed is also a contributing factor.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Wakefield Fire Department, Beacon Ambulance, Gogebic County Road Commission and the Michigan State Police.
