ESCANABA -- Escanaba Public Safety met with city officials and members of the public for a special crime study session on Tuesday. They discussed the current drug trends in the U.P.
UPSET Detective Lieutenant George Sailer said that last year, Michigan had 671 meth labs, and prescription pain killers remain popular because of their accessibility.
Officials said that the majority of crimes are drug related.
Breaking and entering is one easy way for people to get their hands on these pills.
"There is a lot of activity in Escanaba, as well as other counties, especially Marquette and Menominee and Delta County," said Escanaba resident Florence Bessonen. "And much of the drug activity comes from somewhere else."
Police encouraged the public to remain watchful and report any suspicious activity.
