U.P. Disaster Conference held Tuesday
MARQUETTE -- The U.P. might not seem like the likely target of a terrorist attack, but Michigan Department of Homeland Security, Mike Moll, says that possibility shouldn't be ruled out.
He was the guest speaker Tuesday at the Second Annual U.P. Disaster Conference. The conference's goal is to improve the U.P.'s capacity to respond to all types of disaster incidents.
"We have 20 percent of the world's fresh water in our backyard, and we're a target," says Marquette County Health Department Emergency Preparation Coordinator Jill Fries.
"So we all need to be vigilant in terms of protecting our natural resources, protecting our facilities and making certain not just our neighbors, but places we've grown to love and cherish, are all safe."
Several law enforcement, health and emergency response agencies attended the conference.
