MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University held a graduation ceremony for students in the Midwest Skills electrical line technician program.

There were 37 students that received certificates after completing the one-year course to prepare them to work in the power industry.

The Midwest Training Skill Development Center is a training program sponsored by the Lake Superior Community Partnership that includes classroom and field training.  The program was designed to fill a need for electrical workers here in the U.P.

The students are now prepared to install, maintain and operate electrical systems.

"It's a technical degree, you're very skilled, you come out of the program knowing what you're doing, completely prepared to be employed in the industry.  It's a pretty good program," said Kahlea Berry from the Partnership.

The students will now search for jobs and apprenticeships in the field.
