MARQUETTE -- An update on the truck that was found burning in the City of Marquette over the weekend:  police now believe the cause was arson.

Marquette City Police responded to a call of a truck burning on the 800 block of Magnetic Street at 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.  A witness traveling west on Magnetic noticed the truck in flames and called police.

It is now believed the cause was arson based on the fact that a gas can from the bed of the truck was located in a nearby yard after the vehicle had been burned.

"With the flames starting underneath, it appeared that gas had been used to make the fire which eventually led to the vehicle being engulfed in flames," said Lt. Detective Mike Waise.

Detective Waise also said there have been several incidents of vandalism in that area prior to this.

He urges residents to keep an eye out for suspicious people, and call police if anything seems out of the ordinary.
