LANSING -- Three Republican legislators from Upper Michigan are part of a coalition trying to prevent the closure of 23 state forest campgrounds including 15 in the U.P.
Senator Tom Casperson, Representative Matt Huuki and Representative Ed McBroom have proposed an alternative plan that calls for giving local governments the option to take over the campgrounds.
They're developing legislation that would allow the land rights to be transferred for one dollar if local governments agree to keep the campgrounds open.
