Vehicle fire claims life of unidentified man

ESCANABA -- Update Monday April 11,2011   3 a.m.

There is no word yet on the identity of the man found dead in a burned car Saturday morning in Escanaba.

Escanaba Public Safety was called to a car fire at approximately 3:30 a.m.  When they extinguished the fire, they found the unidentified man.

Escanaba Public Safety officials are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire that left a man dead.

According to Delta County Dispatch, police were called to the east alley of the 300 block of South 19th Street around 3:30 Saturday morning.

Officials say that upon arrival, they found the vehicle to be fully engulfed.

A nearby home was damaged from the flames.

After the fire was extinguished, an unidentified male was found dead inside.

Public safety officials are working with the Michigan State Police Crime Lab since the cause of the fire was determined to be suspicious in nature.
