MARQUETTE -- A two-week period of relative inactivity will soon end at Michigan's state Capitol.
State lawmakers return to Lansing this week with full sessions that are scheduled to resume Tuesday.
More than 30 committee or subcommittee meetings already were scheduled for House and Senate members as the week began.
According to Representative Stephen Lindberg, the number one issue will of course be the budget and to meet the May 31 Governor's deadline.
They are facing a lot of hours on budget talks.
"It will be interesting to see how the budget is presented whether it be all rolled in to one or we as legislators can go through it line by line," said Lindberg. "If it's all rolled into one that would give the department heads the say on where money is spent in their department, which would take away from the legislatures duty to balance the budget."
Lawmakers had a spring recess the past two weeks, although some committee hearings were held during the break.
Lawmakers are trying to eliminate a projected $1.4 billion budget shortfall for the fiscal year that begins in October.
Rallies and protests also will return to the state Capitol this week.
The Michigan Education Association has a rally planned for Wednesday.
