The end of the ski season has great deals and discounts

IRON RIVER -- Skiers at Iron River's Ski Brule Resort were springing onto the slopes Sunday afternoon.  Winter may be over, but Ski Brule has always taken pride in their start of spring conditions and their late season closings

"Ski Brule is well known for being the first to open and the last to close, so people count on us being open late in the season with great conditions," said Manager Jessica Polich.

And this year the hill is thrilled to live up to that reputation.  While many of us are counting the seconds until the snow melts, skiers and snowboarders are making the most of this year's colder conditions.

About a year ago Sunday, Ski Brule shut down its slopes after an unexpected warm spell in March.  But frigid temperatures, coupled with regular snow making, have made for a great season finale.

"It's been cold, which is a double bonus," Polich said.  "We've had some warmer days, but as long as temps get below freezing overnight, there's very little snow loss."

And lots of snow means lots of happy skiers.

"If they can have fresh powder like this at the beginning of April, you just can't beat it," said Iron Mountain snowboarder Chuck Winters.

"The snow is still really good," said Scarlet Simenz of Plymouth, Wisconsin.

When hill conditions are as appealing as they were on Sunday, many say skiing at the season's end is ideal since the hills are less crowded.  And the best part about spring skiing has to be the prices.  Ski Brule is offering all sorts of discounts including free ski lessons.
