SAULT STE. MARIE (AP) -- A new, permanent facility in Sault Ste. Marie is designed to strengthen U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's efforts in northern Michigan.
The 10,000-square-foot ICE office that opened Friday includes Enforcement Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations, and officials say it should help improve border security. The agency says it includes an evidence-processing room, a short-term holding facility, and new office space.
ICE is an investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security.
