L'ANSE -- The State Solo and Ensemble for the U.P. will be held at L'Anse High School on Saturday for the first time in years.
L'Anse Band Director Aaron VanDusen says that the school is really excited to be hosting the event, which brings 19 U.P. schools in for a day of music.
"Students really enjoy performing at a higher level," said VanDusen. "If some soloists receive a high enough rating, they can be nominated to the Michigan Youth Art Festival, which is held in May at Western Michigan University."
Students perform in ensembles ranging from 2 to 13 people, and many students are performing solo. VanDusen says that many students are participating even with spring break going on.
The event is free to attend and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
