MARQUETTE -- On Wednesday, the Lake Superior Hospice recognized their veteran volunteers for their service to our country and to the hospice patients.

Eight veterans were presented with a plaque and metal by Marquette City Manager Bill Vajda.  They serve the hospice by connecting with, and relating to, other veterans who are in their last stages of life.

"When they go out into senior centers or assisted living facilities or patient homes, they're able to really form a bond with those patients, and that's really meaningful to the families and to us as an organization to be able to have that," said Volunteer Coordinator Samantha Rogers.

This was Lake Superior Hospice's first veterans recognition ceremony.

It was part of the national We Honor Veterans Awareness Campaign.
