NEGAUNEE -- New recommendations are out Monday about car seats, but these regulations aren't law...just suggestions from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
It's now advised that parents keep toddlers in rear-facing car seats until the age of two or until they exceed the height or weight limit for the car seat.
Those recommendations can be found on the back of the seat or online.
"It is important that you try to keep the child remaining rear-facing until they're two, just from a safety standpoint," said Car Seat Technician Stacey Rasanen. "And it allows the child to develop more in case that you are in a crash--the seat will protect the child's head, neck, and spinal column."
There is a car seat education program in Marquette County called KARS, or Kids Always Ride Safely.
