MARQUETTE -- The U.P.'s U.S. Navy Sea Cadets want you to join their crew. They're currently low on members, and they're actively recruiting more.
After losing several cadets who either moved or graduated, they now only have five in the group.
The low number poses problems when the group participates in statewide cadet competitions that require about 10 cadets for entry. Instructors say the program is great for any young person, whether they are interested in joining the military or not.
"Anyone male or female from the age of 10 to all the way up to 17 that's really looking to develop leadership skills to develop self reliance, skills that can help them really be successful in whatever career they choose," said instructor, John Major. "Certainly this is not a military recruiting program."
The cadets will host an open house at the Marquette Coast Guard station on Saturday, April 16, but you can apply anytime by visiting their website.
