MARQUETTE -- For the first time ever, two U.P. women's hockey teams are advancing to national competition.

The Marquette Advantedge Training U19 and the Keweenaw Storm Girls U16 teams both claimed state titles this year.  They'll advance to nationals in California to be held March 30 to April 3.

U19 Head Coach Laura Amenson describes the victory as 'unreal.'

"From the beginning, the girls just started working hard," says Amenson.  "It's accumulated, but I mean, they've really come together, not only as a team, but they're like a family now."

She says the U19 team will be practicing at least two times a week on the ice and two days of strength training up until the trip.

Benefit games have been set up to raise money for the trip.  The U16 and the U19 teams will be playing each other at the Berry Events Center in Marquette Sunday at 12 p.m.
