Fatal crash in Keweenaw County

ALLOUEZ TOWNSHIP -- A Calumet woman is dead after a two vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

The Michigan State Police in Calumet report that the collision happened around 2:30 p.m. on US-41 near Cliff Drive, just north of Ahmeek.

Allison Harju, age 25, was northbound on US-41 when she crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming car head on.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, 22-year-old Allison Lahti of Eagle River, was hospitalized at Keweenaw Aspirus for non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, the cause of the crash is still under investigation. The State Police report that both were wearing seatbelts.

Assisting at the scene were personnel from the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, Keweenaw County Sheriff's Department, Allouez Township Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance, and Joe's Towing.
