ESCANABA -- The songs they cover range from jazz standards, original tunes, and Billboard Top 100 songs.
John Mallo and Rebecca Ferguson of Marquette play what they call "feel good music."
“We really do play a wide variety of music,” explains Mallo. “Hopefully music that kind of makes you move and has kind of a groove to it, and songs that feature a female's voice."
The singing duo call themselves, what else? John and Rebecca. They first got together last February when they met at a benefit event.
“Basically it's just for fun,” explains Ferguson. “John and I are very passionate about music, about playing. We want to bring our love of music to different places around the U.P."
Hereford and Hops in Escanaba is one of their favorite places to play their music.
“I just have always liked to play since a very early age,” Mallo said. “And it's something that kind of comes to me naturally, like therapy. So when I’m doing it, I’m just really enjoying myself."
John is a self-employed carpenter and Rebecca is a teller at Wells Fargo. So while they're not quitting their daytime jobs, entertaining is still their number one passion.
“Since we just recently started, we're hoping to play a lot of the music festivals around town," Mallo said.
John and Rebecca also have plans to record a CD where they'll sing popular cover versions.
Aside from public performances, the duo also puts their music on YouTube as a way to increase exposure for their music and hopefully catch the eye of someone from the music industry.
