NEWBERRY -- A broken rear axle is suspected as the cause of a fatal two-car crash on M-123 near Newberry on Wednesday around noon, according to Michigan State Police.
A vehicle driven by 64-year-old Robert King of Hulbert lost control of his vehicle, crossing over into oncoming traffic. King's vehicle was struck on the door side by a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Charles Johnson of Newberry.
King was transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1 p.m.
Johnson was transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital as well, where he was treated and released.
