Stimulus-funded project
CALUMET -- The interior rehabilitation of Calumet's Historic Union Building is on schedule to finish up this spring.
Most of the work left to do is on the building's lower floors where crews are still putting up drywall and have just begun the elevator installation.
The top floor already has final paint colors and historical decor on its walls and ceiling.
Workers have also nearly completed the structural stairwell with access to all three floors.
"This is really a great project," said Karl Benda, KNHP Project Manager. "Starting back in 2005, when we did the exterior of the building, to now, where we finally see this project on the interior coming to completion...it's pretty exciting for the park."
Construction should be done by May 18. Federal stimulus money is paying for the project.
