FORSYTH TOWNSHIP -- Cliffs Natural Resources recently presented a check to the Forsyth Township Fire Department for $10,000, which is part one of a five-year pledge for $50,000.

"The money this year will be used to purchase bunker gear for our fire department," said Larry Hammond, Forsyth Township Fire Chief.  "This is truly a blessing for our department and will provide equipment we desperately need."

The Forsyth Township Fire Department operates out of Gwinn and Sawyer with 35 firefighters.  The bunker gear that's being replaced is protective gear firefighters wear when on scene.

"We are pleased to be able to make this financial pledge to the Forsyth Township Fire Department and appreciate the dedicated volunteer members who are committed to protecting their community," said Dale Hemmila, District Manager of Public Affairs in Michigan for Cliffs.

The donation was made by Cliffs Foundation, the charitable division of Cliffs Natural Resources.
