The company announced just a few weeks ago that it was backing out of the proposed road project
ISHPEMING -- Kennecott Eagle Minerals will be funding a permit application for County Road 595.
The announcement comes after just a few weeks ago, the company backed out of the proposed Woodland Road project, citing cost and permit delays.
Now Kennecott officials are saying that the company will fund the preparation of a Marquette County Road Commission permit application for County Road 595.
Some minor legal issues still need to be worked out between the company and Marquette County officials.
It's been a five-year effort to construct Woodland Road. The cost to the company: more than eight million dollars.
In the meantime, Kennecott will continue to identify alternative transportation routes for its trucks, including sections of County Road 510 and 550.
Before this new announcement, Kennecott officials had committed to improving both of those roads.
Question of the Day: Are you surprised that Kennecott went back to their original decision to help fund the permit process for the building County Road 595 in western Marquette County?
