A PG-13 comedy
MARQUETTE -- “As far as energetic, hilarious musicals...this is right up at the top," said actor Aaron Sarka.
And that's what everyone associated with the play has to say about it. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is without a doubt hilarious. But while the show is funny, the director says it is for an adult audience. Due to language, he would give the show a PG-13 rating.
"It does have some adult language, so I do want folks to be aware of that," said Director Ansley Valentine.
The show is being held at the Forest Roberts Theatre February 16-19. And while many may be hoping for a romantic comedy so close to Valentine’s Day, don't expect an overly tender message from this show. The plot lends itself to laughs.
"Two con artists in the French Riviera meet up, one is rather young and new at the game and one's been doing this for a long time, and they make a bet to see who gets control of the territory,” Sarka said. “And the bet is focused on a young soap heiress who has just arrived."
Twenty N.M.U. students and local participants are involved in the production that features both singing and dancing, with a setting that takes you far away from the currently cold U.P. temperatures.
"It takes place in the south of France,” Valentine said. “So, you know, what better way to spend a cold snowy evening then to be imagining that you're on the beach with palm trees?"
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and are available at the Forest Roberts Theatre or any N.M.U. EZ ticket outlet.
