RSVP helps U.P. seniors stay active in the community
ISHPEMING -- RSVP, or Retired Senior Volunteer Program, has been helping U.P. seniors stay engaged and active for over 20 years.
They have 200 registered volunteers out helping in the community. You could easily meet one of them and never know that they're part of RSVP, that's what makes this organization a FOX UP Hidden Treasure.
RSVP volunteers do everything from providing rides so other seniors can get to medical appointments, to preparing lunches at the Salvation Army. The services they provide are free. They do it all for the sake of making a difference and giving back to the community.
"It helps the senior who's volunteering because it gives them something to do. Maybe they're retired, and instead of sitting at home watching television, they're out helping their community. It gives them a sense of purpose, it gives them a chance to share some of the experiences they've had throughout their lifetime," says Amy Mattson, RSVP Program Director.
RSVP has recently moved from downtown Marquette to Hematite Drive in Ishpeming. Anyone 55 or older can register to volunteer.
