SAGOLA -- If you can hold a pole, you can enter.

Those were the only rules at Saturday's ice fishing contest on Sawyer Lake at the 37th annual Sagola Township Sportsmen's Club Tip-Up Town of the U.P.

The event was open to the public with a four dollar admission fee.

And it was packed.  Organizers say they believe the great turnout had a lot to do with the relatively warmer temperatures.

"Usually every year we get about 150, 130 people, adults fishing in the ice fishing contest.  There's also a separate contest for the kids; the kids' contest usually runs between 50 and 80 kids as well, so that's quite a few people out on the ice," says vice president Paul Rotter.

About 1,000 people showed up to the Tip-Up Town of the U.P.

Gift certificates, fishing gear, and cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the ice fishing contest.
