MARQUETTE -- Students at Northern Michigan University kicked off the first night of their bone marrow registry drive Friday evening.
The three night event offers the opportunity for interested donors to fill out the necessary medical release forms and complete a swab test to enter the registry.
This year's event is in honor of Northern's Athletic Director Ken Godfrey who is battling leukemia.
"Ken lent his name to the process way before we even knew that he had a donor, and what he wants to do is make sure that people will have a chance to receive that donation as he has," said Associate Recreation Program Director, Brian Gaudreau.
Another registry event will be held at Vandament Arena Friday from 5 until 8:30 p.m.
They'll also host one at the NMU Health Fair on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
