MARQUETTE -- Marquette Branch Prison is lifting its lockdown of maximum security prisoners that went into effect on Tuesday.

Maximum security inmates, 374 of them, were affected by the lockdown, while the minimum security section of the prison continued normal operations.

Prison officials say a series of fights broke out on Sunday and Monday.  One staff member suffered a minor injury breaking up one of the fights.

Eventually 21 inmates were identified as having taken part in the fights, and they've been transferred to other state prisons.

The lifting of the lockdown should be completed by Saturday.
