Yet another award for the U.P.'s largest city
MARQUETTE -- Marquette has pulled in another national award.
This time it comes from US News and World Report which lists Marquette as one of its "10 Winter Wonderlands for Retirement." The list was posted online.
"Once again, Marquette speaks for itself," said Mona Lang, the executive director of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority. "If you're a healthy, youngish retiree, it's really the place to be for winter."
Other towns on the list: Aurora, Colorado; Burlington, Vermont; Juneau, Alaska; Manchester, New Hampshire; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Portland, Maine; Salt Lake City, Utah; South Bend, Indiana; and Syracuse, New York.
Marquette is lauded for its 117 inches of snow a year, Marquette Mountain, 11 accessible waterfalls, Lake Superior, and good air quality.
In addition, the magazine lists Marquette's crime rate and cost of living as low and its health care as comprehensive.
