MARQUETTE -- Two of the three suspects in the robbery of a Rapid River Credit Union earlier this week made their first appearance in court Friday.

Jacob Johnston, 19, and 21-year-old Carl Alfonso Crane III were arraigned in Marquette Circuit Court Friday afternoon.  The pair are accused of taking part in an armed robbery at the Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union on Wednesday.

An amount of  $13,500 was stolen from the credit union.  The crime is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

"The complaint does charge...that you aided and abetted a one Carl Alfonso Crane, Junior in an armed robbery at the Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union in Delta County," said Judge Thomas Solka.

Although the crimes are federal felonies, Friday's arraignment was held in state court because there was no Federal Magistrate available.

A second, extended hearing will be held Monday afternoon in federal court in front of a magistrate.

The two suspects will remain in jail until then.

A third man was also arrested in connection with the incident.  He remains lodged in the Delta County Jail.
