ESCANABA -- Children at the Escanaba Public Library are sending a special thank you to the troops in a community project called "Valentines for Military Heroes".
Over the weekend, the public library held a special Valentine making session for kids who wanted to use their creativity to show their patriotism.
Many kids were glued to the crafts table where they worked hard to cut, color, and create their special Valentines.
Eight-year-old Lisette, who goes to Holy Name Catholic School in Escanaba, explained.
"And then I wrote 'happy Valentine's day'. And on the inside, I wrote, 'to the troops, from Lisette'. And they might think, wow, these kids are really nice," said the young artist.
The project is part of the national Martin Luther King, Jr. "Day of Service" on January 17 and places an emphasis on encouraging community service from all age ranges.
The Valentine cards being created will be collected through January 18 and will be sent in special packages for the troops to receive them in time for February 14.
