MICHIGANDER -- While many may have avoided the roads Saturday, others were eager to hit the trails.
The State of Michigan has more than 6,000 miles of snowmobile trails. But a group from downstate says the weather motivated them to make their first visit to the U.P. to hit the trails.
They say the sights they want to see in the U.P. are easier to get to in a snowmobile than in a car, and the weather conditions make this kind of travel less tense.
"I'm not nervous. I like the deep snow, but it's kinda scary when you can't see. Plans are just wherever the trail takes us," said touring snowmobiler, Shelby Hutchinson.
Authorities remind snowmobilers to stay safe by staying on the predetermined trails.
