Trapped for almost 30 minutes
STANTON TOWNSHIP -- An elderly woman is okay Tuesday evening after her car slid down a steep embankment off Canal Road in Stanton Township.
The woman had to be helped out of the car and carried by first responders back up to the road.
They believe she was trapped in her car almost 30 minutes before a neighbor noticed the tracks and called for help around 2:30 p.m.
The woman was driving towards Houghton when she lost control of her vehicle.
"Last winter, at least half a dozen cars went off both sides of the road," said Jim Johnson, the person who called for help. "One even took out my mailbox. It happens a lot in the bad weather because you hit the edge and lose control."
Superior Service Towing was able to pull the woman's car back onto the road.
The Stanton Township Fire Department and Michigan State Police responded to the incident.
