ISHPEMING -- It's not just a new year for students and staff from Phelps Middle School.  Monday was also their first day in a different building.

Over 200 middle school students have moved into the Central School Building, the same building as the 300 high school students of the Ishpeming High School.

Six contractors worked through the holiday break to complete the renovation process, and work continued until late Sunday night.

"It was very interesting," said Vicki Lempinen, Principal.  "You couldn't even walk through this hall that we're standing in, at all.  Lots of things have been accomplished, and that couldn't have happened without lots of efforts by lots of people."

The district is also spending $110,000 in renovations for things such as new lockers and a computer lab.

The move is estimated to save the district about $300,000 a year.
