HOUGHTON -- Winning Friday's Mega Millions Jackpot would be a great way to start the New Year, which is why many people were picking up their tickets earlier in the day.
Employees at the Freedom gas station in Houghton say they see a big increase in lottery players around the holidays, especially with a big pot. Customers were taking their time picking out lucky numbers for their shot at the big prize. An estimated $242 million is up for grabs.
"I'm pretty skeptical about winning, but it'd be pretty nice. I wouldn't have to worry about stuff. I'd probably give a bunch away to family or friends in need," said lottery participant, Bob Turuc.
The big drawing is held at 11 p.m.
