ISHPEMING -- While school may be out for Ishpeming students, the faculty and staff have been busy with the moving of Phelps Middle School to the Central High School building.

On January 3, middle school students will begin attending classes in the same building as the high school.

The district is also spending $110,000 in renovations for things such as new lockers and a computer lab.

Administrators say moving the 240 middle school students into the same building as the 300 high school students will create a unique opportunity.

"We'll all be in one facility, obviously, and it will be easier to manage some things, and it will give us some opportunities for our middle school students and our high school students to do some things together down the road," said High School Principal Vicky Lempinen.

The move is estimated to save the district about $300,000 a year.
