MARQUETTE -- With the snowy season in full swing, cross country skiers are hitting the trails, and there's some concern about who will be grooming these trails.
In the past, the Department of Natural Resources groomed the trails, but since there are no fees or permits to use the trails, money has had to come from the shrinking general fund.
Currently Blueberry Ridge is the only trail to receive money through a Recreation Improvement Fund grant; the rest of the trails rely solely on donations.
"There's been a lot of groups of people that have kind of banded together, even some townships," said Pete Glover, DNRE Fire Supervisor. "Those types of things to donate money last year and that really was a big help to us and the trail, it was a big difference in the trail."
If you would like to donate, you can contact your local DNRE office or call the main office in Marquette at (906) 228-6561.
