MARQUETTE COUNTY -- A permit has been approved for a new power source at the Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company mine.

The northern Marquette County copper and nickel mine will use electricity rather than diesel generators for power.

Michigan's DNRE gave the green light to the permit amendment for electrical service from the Alger-Delta Electric Co-op.

The power would come from lines on the AAA Road.

The DNRE, in a press release, says concerns were voiced about the entire permit process, but there were no objections to Kennecott's plans to switch from diesel generators to electricity.
