MARQUETTE -- Skiers and snowboarders were out on Marquette Mountain for opening day despite the little snow we have seen so far this year.
Crews have been working hard to make snow, and employees say that although the snow is a bit chunky, it should be just fine for the weekend.
Along with opening for the season, skiers and snowboarders could get a lift ticket by bringing in $12 worth of canned goods for the TV6 Canathon.
General Manager Vern Barber says the response Thursday has been very good.
"We had a long line waiting to get off the lift, right off the bat this morning," said Barber. "I have a funny feeling some kids took off from school and they hit the slopes hard, and it's been fairly busy all day."
The hill opened late compared to most years, but a week earlier than last year.
They are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until December 21, at which point they will open night skiing.
