Sanders and plows working round the clock to clear roads
HOUGHTON -- Another day, another pile of snow to clean off the car.
Winter came to the Copper Country in full force this week, and many residents and local businesses are just doing their best to keep up.
Steven Handley started shoveling the sidewalk in front of the Ambassador Restaurant early Friday morning, but he doubted it would stay clean for long.
"I don't really mind because it's the first time I’ve had to do it this year," says Handley. "I don't mind right now, but I’m sure in a week or so I’ll regret saying that."
It's already been a long week for Houghton’s Department of Public Works. Sanders and plows have been running around the clock to clear the roads and keep drivers safe, without putting themselves in danger, too.
"This storm's worse than anything I’ve seen in a long time," says driver Wayne Goudge. "I couldn't see two feet in frony of me last night the way it was coming down. The winds were gusting 30-40 mph. If a car gets in front of me, I’m just going to truck along at five miles per hour because the visibility is just terrible."
Crews will be covering the streets until the snow stops, which may not be for a while. They say the best thing the public can do to help is slow down and give their vehicles plenty of room.
