ISHPEMING -- Inspired by her disease, a Westwood High School senior is helping to raise money for a local diabetes organization.

Logan Harvala, a type one diabetic, organized the second High School Volleyball Tournament to benefit the U.P. Diabetes Outreach Network, as well as the Health Occupation Students of America class at her high school.

The organization has recently lost money due to cutbacks, but that hasn't stopped the group.

"They used to get grants for government to pay for stuff that they do, but they keep getting cut more and more every year, so they're always looking for donations and that kind of stuff," said Harvala.

High school boys from Westwood, Ishpeming, and Negaunee high schools will compete Thursday evening at Ishpeming's new gym.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets cost three dollars.
