MARQUETTE -- Winter weather driving season started Friday with several early morning car accidents in Marquette.
A vehicle slid around the corner at Lakeshore Boulevard by the U.S. Coast Guard station and struck a pole Friday morning. Crews were forced to close Lakeshore Boulevard to traffic temporarily to repair a hanging power line following the crash.
The driver received a minor cut to the forehead when the airbag released.
Law enforcement officials remind drivers its that time of year to slow down and leave extra time for travel.
"All I can tell people is to learn to adapt to weather conditions, slow down. It's not the same as driving in the summer," said Tim Forslund of the Marquette Police Department. "You're tires aren't going to grip like the should, especially with the black ice out there."
In accident situations like this one, officials say the best thing to do is to stay in your vehicle and call for emergency help.
