MARQUETTE -- Most people don't think about where their needles and syringes go once they've thrown them away, but one Marquette man has taken the task of making sure they are disposed of safely.
David Campana is a retired pharmacist who is working with local pharmacies and the Marquette County Landfill to properly dispose of syringes.
Previously, pharmacies would not take syringes due to liabilities, and residents were forced to simply put them out with their regular trash.
"When I was working I just, I realized that other pharmacies weren't taking them back. There needed to be a way to do it, because I knew where they were going, and it wasn't a good way to dispose of, by putting them into the garbage," said Campana.
Residents can now place syringes into a Sharps box, two liter bottle, or milk jug and bring them to their local pharmacy to be picked up and properly disposed of.
