HARRIS -- It's been five years since the last women's professional golf tournament in the Upper Peninsula, but that streak ends in June with the Island Resort Championship.
It was announced Wednesday, the Sweetgrass Golf Course at the Island Resort and Casino will host a leg of the LPGA Future's Tour.
One-hundred-forty-four golfers will take part and will all be fighting for a chance to be part of the official LPGA tour.
Tournament officials expect at least a half million dollar economic impact, just with players and their families alone. And Sweetgrass organizers say it's is a great opportunity for the community.
"They have the course for a whole week. They have practice rounds, they have a youth clinic, we have two pro-ams and then the tournament is Friday through Sunday, the 24th and 26th. It's going to be a great event," said tournament organizer, Tony Mancilla.
Sweetgrass will host the tournament for three straight years. All money left over from the event will go to the YMCA of Delta County.
