ESCANABA -- Republican Tom Casperson of Delta County is the next State Senator for Michigan's 38th District.  Tuesday night, Casperson defeated opponent Democrat Mike Lahti.

Casperson celebrated his victory at the Ludington Grill in Escanaba.  He was congratulated by dozens of supporters, family, and friends.

Casperson says it was both an exciting and an emotional moment.  However, he knows he's got a lot of work ahead of him in Lansing.

"Work's just getting started, but my goodness, with the majority, that's coming in right now, we should be able to move in the direction that I believe is going to take us, get some things fixed, and jobs are priority.  We have to start making sure when job providers want to set up and do business, we're there with them," said Senator Casperson.

Casperson defeated Lahti by over 10,500 votes.
