Votes are being counted in Michigan's first wide open race for governor in eight years.

Republican nominee and front-runner Rick Snyder is leading Democratic opponent Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero in early returns.

Snyder has 62 percent to Bernero's 35 percent with 5 percent of the precincts reporting.

Three third-party candidates also are running.  Tuesday marks the first gubernatorial race since 2002 with no incumbent and the first since the Michigan economy was rocked by the near-collapse of two automakers.
