ISHPEMING -- SEMCO, UPPCO, and WE Energy customers lined up at the Ishpeming- Negaunee Chamber of Commerce in the Ski Hall of Fame Monday to pick up free energy efficient kits.

The kits contained nine light bulbs, a shower head, and pipe wrap.

They're being provided by Efficiency United, which is a state mandated program made up of seven Michigan electric and gas companies.

The program is funded by a line item on customers' utility bills.  Organizers say that in addition to saving energy, customers will also save money.

"I did see first hand, an amazing difference in the energy bills.  So this isn't just something that an engineer dreamed up in an office somewhere.  This has been field-tested," said Paul Johns of Efficiency United.

You can still get your energy saving kit, simply call Efficiency United at (877) 367-3191.
