ESCANABA -- The Michigan Liquor Control Commission has recently expressed some concerns over a particular type of energy drink, the type with alcohol.
Alcoholic energy drinks look just like any other type of non-alcoholic drink, and that is what has the MLCC concerned. Minors are accidently being sold these drinks, according to officials, and these drinks could be detrimental to the health of the public.
The MLCC met with residents at a town hall meeting in Escanaba recently and say they're currently reconsidering the prior labeling approvals and hope to get something changed.
They have about 12 cups of coffee as far as caffeine goes, and they also have about 6-12 percent alcohol, so the MLCC is looking to change the labeling to more clearly designate the contents of the package," said Tom Hagan, MLCC Director of Enforcement.
The commission has 90 days to review the issue before taking any action.
